Super Saturday for Junior League
What a fun day today! I'm so glad to be part of a wonderful organization. This Saturday was Super Saturday. It's the introduction for the provisionals of non-profit organizations that Junior League of Tallahassee(JLT) helps throughout the year.
We started the day with introductions and having our picture taken for the JLT Directory. We were then split into smaller groups of 3s and 4s to carpool to the non-profit organizations. There is about 60 of us total. In my group was Sarah and Haley.
Our first stop was Boys Town of North Florida. Boys Town sits on 10 Acres. It's a safe place for foster youth to go and stay for a period of time. An average stay is about 16 months. We actually went into one of the homes and interacted with one of the families. It's a very structured environment as they learn independent living skills, social skills and life skills so that they can be successful when they leave Boys Town. One of the teenage boys there gave us the grand tour of their home.

Next Stop was Second Harvest. Second Harvest is a food bank for nonprofit organizations. Their new warehouse is huge! Non- profit or faith based organizations can come shop for food for 19 cents a pound. A few things are always free like bread and vegetables. All of the food is donated by vendors to Second Harvest. Commercial freezers and refrigerators have been donated as well. They do not ever turn anyone away.
This is the best picture I have
Our last stop was The Oasis Center for Women and Girls. Funny little story here. When The Oasis Center was just starting up around 2007, they wanted to rent a house that was downtown owned by the Episcopal church. The problem was the Episcopal church had the house for rent for $5K a month. A little pricey...So The Oasis Center wrote them a proposal as to why the Episcopal church should let them rent it for $500 a month. The Episcopal church accepted their proposal and they have been their ever since. It's a lovely old Victorian house and unfortunately I didn't take a picture to share. The Oasis Center only covers Gaps that are not being covered by other organizations locally. I especially like their summer camp program for girls. Only 60-80 girls are accepted and they cover every demographic from the homeless children to the children of doctors and lawyers. Some pay none and some pay a lot to attend.
We finished things up with lunch at the league house. The food was made by the chairman's of JLT and all the recipes came from the JLT cookbook. We talked about our day and then some assignments were given. I'm proud to tell you that I am the photographer for all the events of my provisional class. I learned a lot today and am excited for what's next!

It's Been A While
It's been a while since my last post. I've been busy and well lazy...I thought I'd share a few pictures from the weekend. We went to Mexico Beach. This Saturday was the opening day of scalloping season. Typically the season opens the first weekend in July, but due to "the spill" they opened it early.
Took a long time to clean all those little jokers, but it's worth it!

Summer Memories
This weekend we are going to Dog Island with many friends and boats. I invited my bff CC to go with us. She declined because she is going fishing with her granny. Later they are going to put up peas and butterbeans. I'm telling you this because it took me back to summers at my grandparents (both sets). Something I haven't thought about in a while. I love so many things about summer so I thought I'd share some old summer memories that I have of my grandparents.
1. Picking huckleberries at Grandaddy Nicholson's with my sister and making huckleberry pie.
2. Swinging on the porch swing at the Granddad's house (& the broad street house).
3. Slip-n-slide at Mimi's and Pop Pop's. They had the best hill, which of course makes for a great time on a slip-n-slide.
4. Going to the Sycamore house and fishing at the Sycamore pond with a bream buster & red worms.
5. Summer Vacations with Grandaddy and Grandma Nicholson.
6. Summer Vacations with Mimi and Pop Pop.
7. Watching Grandaddy Nicholson cream corn.
8. Eating fried yams at a little diner in Sycamore with my sister and Granddaddy Nicholson.
9. Breakfast at Mimi and Pop Pop's. You wanted it they had it and we always got to have a little glass of milk and orange juice at the same time. Plus you NEVER had to help clean up. It was just like a restaurant.
10. A dollar from Pop pop so we could stop on the way home to Bainbridge to get an icy.
So tell me...What is a favorite memory of summer you have surrounding your grandparents. I'd love to know.

Holiday Weekend
I love long weekends! This holiday weekend was especially fun. Spent Friday night with my bff and the rest of the weekend with my sister (LCN), Roo, husband and baby dog. We played, ate, shopped, watched movies and took a mini road trip.
When Quincy Roo gets to my house my dog is full of energy. Goose loves loves loves Quincy. Playing out side is an absolute must!
The boys even went over to play with Jasmine. I think Roo has a little crush.
We always enjoy having Roo over even if things are just a little crazy when he is here. That though, is due to my dog's obsession with Roo.
LCN and I headed over to the marina Saturday night for dinner. Live music, beers, fiddler crabs and beautiful weather made for a great evening. Of course you know we had to take a few pictures!
And don't worry...I'll be making the reveal soon. It won't change your status either! Stay tuned :)
